Common Questions

Permanent Jewellery FAQs

Does it hurt?

Not at all! The process is completely safe and painless. There is no contact between the skin and the welding equipment at any stage and goggles are provided for eye protection.

Can I remove it?

Yes! While your piece is designed to be permanent, it can be easily removed if needed. Simply cut it at the welded point using nail clippers or wire cutters. We can pop a clasp on if you'd like to make it removable.

Do you make pieces with clasps?

Absolutely! We understand that some people prefer removable jewellery, or require this for work or lifestyle purposes, which is why we offer an optional clasp-fitting service on all our pieces. It comes with a small additional charge but gives you the flexibility of a traditional style. This can be done at any point.

What if it breaks?

Our jewellery is created using high-quality, durable materials and is designed to be worn and enjoyed every day. With a good weld and proper care, your piece should last a long time.

That said, like all fine jewellery, it isn’t indestructible. If a piece is accidentally caught, pulled, or subjected to excessive force, it may break - most commonly at the welded point, which is intentionally the weakest area.

At Linqed by Lisa, we’re happy to offer a 12-month complimentary re-weld for any breakages that occur at the original weld point.

If a break occurs elsewhere along the chain, a repair fee may apply, and this will always be discussed with you openly before your appointment.

Loss Policy:

We offer a 14-day goodwill cover for loss of welded jewellery. After this period, as loss can occur due to factors outside of our control such as accidental catching, impact, or individual lifestyle - we’re unable to accept responsibility for lost pieces. Any replacements after this time will be subject to a recharge.

Will I need to remove my jewellery for airport security?

No! Permanent jewellery is made from precious metals and will not set off airport security alarms (I have tried and tested this myself!) So be assured, you can travel with ease knowing your piece stays with you.

I have a medical proceedure coming up - What do I do?

Most medical professionals will ask you to remove all metal jewellery before procedures like MRIs. In these cases, you may need to cut the piece off and have it re-welded later. Contact me to arange a removal appointment or for guidence on how to do this safely at home. If done correctly, we can reweld at a later date.

If you expect to undergo frequent medical procedures, you may prefer a clasped version for easy removal.

My Bracelet/Anklet feels loose - What do I do?

Please book in for a resizing appointment.

Some chain styles will manipulate over time - this can be due to lifestyle, link type or from pressing against other jewellery pieces, but a quick visit to the studio allows us to resize your piece back to the perfect level of comfort.

My Bracelet/Anklet feels tight - What do I do?

Please book in for a resizing appointment.

When initially sizing, we will always leave a level of room to allow for free movement and natural swelling (especially in spring/summer) however factors such as pregnancy/natural weight changes or skin flare-ups can make the chain feel a little more snug - If this is causing discomfort, please cut it off immediately, however if you can get to the studio, pop in and we can sort at the earliest opportunity!

What is the age limit for welded jewellery?

All ages are welcome to enjoy welded jewellery at LinQed.

Under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and we kindly ask that any school or club guidelines around jewellery are considered in advance.

We also offer custom-fit pieces with clasps for children, so they can enjoy the experience while still being able to remove their jewellery when needed.

Common Questions

Memorial Jewellery FAQs

How much of the Ashes/Inclusions do you need?

This can vary slightly depending on the design, but generally only a very small amount is needed — usually less than a quarter of a 5p piece.

A little truly goes a long way. Where possible, I may ask for a little extra, as texture and colour can vary, which helps achieve the best possible result for your piece.

All of our kits include everything you need to safely collect and send the ashes.

What do you use to create the Memorial Pieces?

We invest in very high quality Resin - which has been tried, tested and is used in our very own pieces. Our powders, inks and opals are also of the highest grade. We only use trusted UK suppliers and invest heavily in our equipment.

I don't know what to choose?

I can help. This is common and I can guide you through the process. If it's an option for you, I would always recommend popping to the studio - We can have a chat, look at some samples and explore multiple factors such as chain and setting styles, meaningful connections and your existing jewellery to help you create something that is both meaningful and stylish.

How long does your memorial jewelley last?

With the proper care - A lifetime!

Resin can discolour/fade and scratch over time, just as glass can - but by following our aftercare guidelines given to you at your appointment, your memorial jewellery should remain looking its best for a very long time!

If your piece does become scratched or faded, we offer a re-coating service which enables us to give your piece a little refresh, restoring any dullness to its former sparkle.

I don't have any ashes - What else can I use?

There are many meaningful alternatives you can use to create your piece. This might include fur/hair, dried flowers, fabric/fibres, soil, sand, seeds, breast milk, baby teeth, umbilical cord or other small personal elements that hold significance to you.

If you’re unsure, I’m always happy to talk through ideas with you - Together we can find something that feels right and truly represents your story.

Do you create pieces for pets?

100% - Pets are as much a part of the family as people. I have created pieces for Dogs, Cats, Horses and Rabbits - using both hair, ashes, fibres from their favourite toys and sand from their favourite beach. Please do contact me with any alternative ideas. If I can help make it work for you - I will.

I can't see the colour I want?

The powders and inks we use allow use to create bespoke colours. We have a bespoke colour picker tool on our product order pages which allows you to select a colour from the entire spectrum. We will endeavour to create something as close to this as possible!

I have also colour matched pieces to images and physical objects, so please do not feel you need to settle for something that doesn't feel quite right - get in touch or send me some pictures and i'll do all I can to assist.

Can you make them permanent?

Absolutely - This is common at LinQed, however it comes with some additional care advise which is discussed at your appointment.

Welded Memorial Jewellery is a beautiful sentiment and can be a truly symbolic way of honouring that energy, however if in the future you wish to make this a removable piece, simply book in and we can pop a clasp on it for future wear.

I live quite far away - Can I buy a Connector and have my local Permanent Jewellery Artist attach it?

Yes, absolutely.

I offer 6mm Connectors in both Sterling Silver and Gold-Filled as a "charm only" options. You simply order as normal but select "charm only" in the drop down box on the order page

I would however, strongly advise reaching out to them prior to ordering to ensure they are happy to do this for you.

Most experienced artists will welcome this (especially if you're buying a chain from them to accompany it) but please do exercise caution and do your research.

How do I send my Inclusions to you?

We offer collection kits, which can be added to your order. These include everything you need to securely send your Inclusions to us

They are a non-profit additional cost, but just make the process a little simpler for you.

Alternatively - you can send your inclusions directly to us, but please ensure these are clearly labelled with your name and order number.

I would strongly advise sending these tracked - or if you are local to East Yorkshire, you are welcome to drop them off at the studio.
